Vanessa Rosengart Bishop founded Elder Care Consultants, Inc. in 2001 as a resource for the aging and disabled populations in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. She is dedicated to the needs of aging individuals and their families.
Vanessa has specialized in Gerontology services for the past twelve years, where her areas of practice have included discharge planning, community and long term placement, Medicare/Medicaid planning and Social Security related issues. She is certified as an Advanced Social Work Case Manager and Certified Care Manager and is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers, National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers, The Alzheimer’s Association and DC Senior Resource Group. Vanessa regularly serves as an Expert Witness in Geriatric Services in the District of Columbia, and is currently serving as a consultant to a home health care agency in Savannah, GA.
Vanessa received her undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Science) in Psychology at George Mason University and her Masters Degree in Social Work from The Catholic University of America with a concentration on Individual Adult Mental Health. She has served internships at the US Soldiers and Airmen’s Home in Washington DC and The National Naval Medical Center: Behavioral Healthcare Clinic in Bethesda, MD. Before establishing Elder Care Consultants, Vanessa held positions as Social Service Director for a long-term care/skilled nursing facility in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland.
She is certified and licensed to independently practice as a Clinical Social Worker in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, and is a regular public speaker on topics related to Geriatric Care Management.
The lead discussant of our legal series is Robert S. Bullock, principal of The Elder and Disability Law Center and a most dynamic and engaging presenter. He focuses his practice in the areas of Medicaid, Medicaid eligibility, public benefits, guardianships, conservatorships, disability planning, supplemental needs trusts, the legal issue of competency, and Elder Law.
Mr. Bullock is a Commissioner on the Virginia Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission. He is also the Chairperson of the District of Columbia Senior Resource Group and is a director of Shared Horizons, and the trustee for the Vimer Pooled Trust in the District of Columbia. He has served as Chairperson of the Special Education Advisory Committee to the Alexandria, Virginia School Board for two terms and the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Special Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has received the Education and Leadership Award from the Association of Retarded Citizens – Riggs Bank.
Mr. Bullock is qualified to serve as a guardian ad litem in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and is regularly appointed to serve as guardian and conservator in the commonwealth of Virginia. He is an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. In December 2004 and December 2006, he was named one of the top ten Elder Law attorneys in the metropolitan area by the Washingtonian.
In 2007, Mr. Bullock served on the Estates Trusts and Probate committee of the District of Columbia Bar and in May of 2008 he was recognized by that committee for his leadership and initiative. In Mr. Bullock’s spare time he coaches Special Olympics basketball in Fairfax County, Virginia.
